Our Approach
Every person is unique and every student’s challenges are unique. We don’t use cookie cutters at Hometown Learning Centers. Instead, we administer an Assessment test to determine your child’s current achievement level. For some students, this means uncovering learning discrepancies. These discrepancies might be gaps — areas that your child simply doesn’t understand. Or, these discrepancies might be the result of “negative learning,” a situation where the child developed a bad habit or developed bad logic, which we need to help correct. The results of this testing allow us to create a highly individualized Hometown Learning PathSM for each student. With the Learning Path in place, we can address gaps in prior learning and prepare the student to manage and master his/her current classroom challenges.
Proven Process
We firmly believe that some things can only be learned with the help of another human. Imagine trying to learn to play the piano, or fly an airplane, or even putt a golf ball without the careful and helpful eye of a guardian, coach, mentor or tutor? We need these experts to help us avoid learning to embed mistakes in technique or logic. Hometown Learning Centers tutors learn to give their students just the right amount of oversight in order to help them learn by doing, yet they are available in the moment in order to help prevent a student from negative learning. We identify the knowledge gaps in learning, and work on the things your son or daughter needs to master — at his or her own pace. We provide a fun, engaging and open atmosphere for a positive learning experience every time.
Affordable
Hometown Learning Centers has developed an array of programs that all share one important element: Tutoring isn’t something that must be metered by the hour. Instead, we have programs that encourage frequent tutoring sessions without the natural concern about “what will this cost?” Parents could pay $50 or more per one hour session with other tutors, but with Hometown Learning Centers, we have flexible weekly schedules that allow your daughter or son to visit multiple times per week without incurring added tutoring fees. This gives them the chance to consistently get help when they need it most — with homework, preparing for a test, special projects and more.
Consistent Improvement
Effective tutoring is a process, not an event. As parents and tutors, we understand that students may be having difficulty in their current grade for a variety of reasons. The current topics may be particularly challenging. Or, it is also quite possible that the student can’t grasp his/her current assignment because s/he has a gap in previous concepts, or has even developed mistaken logic for prior concepts. We focus on all three areas: Knowledge gaps; logic errors; and current assignments. In that way, we believe that we can best help your child to catch up to and stay on top of current grade standards and learning objectives. Students get the attention they need to be comfortable to ask questions, to feel better about learning, to increase their understanding of a subject, and to improve grades and test scores.
